Virginia State University has nine Greek fraternities and sororities operating on its campus and the new neophytes of the Spring 2022 semester are being recognized at their Neophyte Initiation Presentations.
At a Neophyte Initiation Presentation, or simply probate, the new initiates of an organization put on a show of information about their organization and themselves. Brianna Pettaway is a new member of the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
“It was an exciting and memorable experience for me, I know many Alpha Kappa Alpha women who I look up to and aspire to be,” Pettaway said.
People do not just join a Greek organization because they think it is cool and it is something they see everybody else doing. It is a big decision to show interest and sign an application to join any organization.
“For me the reason why I joined the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is because of their service in the community and their mission is something I most related to,” Pettaway said.
There are many benefits of crossing over and becoming Greek. It is not just about gaining letters and recognition.
“I am around new opportunities and women with the same interests and goals all while doing service. This is something I wanted ever since I was a child so I definitely feel like I made the right choice, I learned a lot about myself as a women during this process,” Pettaway said.
