You may not be the type that normally reads the newspaper. That’s ok… most people don’t these days. So why are you reading this? We hope because you like to find out what is going on close to home… meaning on our campus.
At The Virginia Statesman there is a small group of students who care about what is going on at Virginia State University very much. That’s why once a month we get together to publish this paper. Now it takes more than one meeting of course. In fact, we meet in person every Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the Multipurpose Center room 1417. This is our home.
It can be your home too and also a place where you can contribute to the story of our year and our campus.
Yes, this is an open invitation for you to join our team. We need you and we think our campus needs us.
Where else can you get a close-up look at each and every major sporting event, homecoming event, concert, club meeting, etc.? As a journalist this is the privilege you receive by taking up the task of reporting the news.
Another very important job you take on as a reporter, is someone who is willing to listen to others and share their view on important topics.
Yes, we are talking about the freedom of speech. A right that we hold very dear to our hearts at The Virginia Statesman.
Our purpose for doing what we are doing is to tell an objective and truthful account of what is going on here in Ettrick, Va. Without this organization, you have one less platform to talk about the issues that are important to you.
In this time when television shows are being shutdown and journalists are being called the enemy, it is important for this staff to keep working and never take for granted the opportunity we have to tell our Trojan story.
We want you to tell that story with us. SO be a part of our team. Take a photo. Write a story. Write an editorial. We need you. Journalism needs you. Come see us next Monday in room 1417 at the MPC at 3 p.m. We will be waiting for you. And if you can’t join us in person. Email our editor Ciani Sparrow or at our gmail [email protected]
