The Academic Commons Building, and Harris Hall are getting closer and closer to being completed.
The Academic Commons building, and Harris Hall are two new buildings that are being built next to the Hunter McDaniel building and Singleton Hall. The two new buildings are going to function as not only a learning center, but also as a place where students can spend their leisurely time.
Virginia State University President Makola Abdullah explained during a meeting with the Board of Visitors on Friday, Sept.. 13, that the construction of the building is halfway finished.
“The Alfred W. Harris Academic Commons is halfway done,” Dr. Abdullah said. “The outside is done, the inside is not.”
President Abdullah also added that even though the Academic Commons building is not finished yet, he assured the Board of Visitors that the building should be completed by September 2025.
“It should be finished for Fall of 2025,” Dr. Abdullah said.
There is also going to be another building that is going to be added to the VSU campus. The new building is going to be called the Admissions and Institutional Advancement Building, in which President Abdullah explained that the construction of the building is going to start taking place this fall at the Rogers Stadium parking lot.
“We will break ground this year on the Admissions and Advancement Building in the parking lot of Rogers Stadium,” Dr. Abdullah said.
Dr. Abdullah also added that the VSU campus is aiming to have the Admissions and Advancement Building completed by the spring semester of 2026.
Towards the end of the meeting, President Abdullah said that he was very much looking forward to seeing the new buildings and he joked about how he has never seen so many cranes at Virginia State.
“I can say safely, I don’t believe that there have ever been this many cranes that are going to be up at Virginia State University,” Dr. Abdullah said.
