With just one week left in the regular season for both Men’s and Women’s Basketball, the Trojans are preparing for the CIAA Tournament.
The men have had a strong stretch of late, winning their last seven games in a row. They still have two games before departing for Baltimore. They have their eyes on repeating as CIAA Champs.
The two games will be on Wednesday night at Bowie State and then on Saturday for their final game of the season at home against Virginia Union.
Currently State is tied with Union at the top of the Northern Division with each at 7-1 in the division. Virginia Union defeated Virginia State earlier this season in the Freedom Classic by a score of 65-37.
The final game of the season will be a big contest and most likely determine who will get a top seed in the CIAA Tournament.
On the women’s side of things, the Trojans look to return to the big game and take care of some unfinished business from last year.
Like the men, the Lady Trojans made it to the Championship of the 2025 CIAA Tournament. But unlike the men, they came up just a little short as they lost to Fayetteville State who repeated as champs. Losing 64-56 was a tough one to get past, but they defeated the Broncos earlier this season 55-46 and are ready for a rematch.
Currently both Men’s and Women’s Basketball sit at the top of the Northern Division. If they can hang on to one of the top two spots it means they will get a day one bye and possibly only have to win two games to get a return appearance in the Championship games on Saturday.
The CIAA Tournament begins on Feb. 24, 2026, at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.
In addition to the on-court action, the CIAA will host a slate of fan-favorite events throughout tournament week, including the Fan Fest, Career Expo, Education Day, Step Shows, A-List Performances, CIAA Parties, The John B. McClendon Jr. CIAA Hall of Fame Breakfast, community service initiatives, and a series of town halls and symposiums focused on education, health, financial wellness, and innovation.
As part of the CIAA’s multi-year partnership with ESPN, all 22 games will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN+, with championship games also airing on ESPNU, ensuring national visibility for one of the most storied conferences in collegiate sports.
“This tournament represents the heart and soul of Black college sports and tourism,” said CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams Parker. “For more than eight decades, the CIAA has preserved and propelled Black excellence in higher education and sports. The Food Lion CIAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament is more than a competition, it is a powerful reflection of our history, our resilience, and our continued impact on generations of student-athletes and communities.”
