Trey Songz and Fabolous visited Virginia State University on March 20, 2026, for the Trey Songz Hometown Concert, which celebrated the 20 year anniversary of Trey Songz’s career.
Known professionally as Trey Songz, Tremaine Aldon Neverson hails from Petersburg, Va. Since the start of his career, he has released nine albums and 59 singles, selling over 25 million records worldwide. His music is loved and known by many different audiences, which was apparent at the Hometown concert, where hundreds of people from different places, backgrounds, and age groups came together to enjoy his music and celebrate Trey Songz’s 20th anniversary.
Songz is currently on a tour to celebrate this achievement and Petersburg was a stop he decided he could not miss as he was born and partly raised here, even attending Walnut Hill Elementary School and Petersburg High School. Due to his father being in the military, he moved to several different states during his childhood, but ended up coming back home to Petersburg during high school before he graduated in 2002. His homecoming made the concert much more emotional and special to both Trey and his fans.
Hundreds of fans from all over Virginia gathered at VSU’s Multipurpose Center on March 20 where they viewed several opening acts while awaiting the main event. Upon entry, attendees were given complimentary merch for coming to the concert, and the concession stand served snacks and drinks all night long.
The concert was scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m., and the opening acts for the concert hyped up the crowd, and Songz’s performance made the anticipation all worth the wait. Performing for almost two hours, the opening acts included three different DJ sets before a performance by Fabolous, the biggest advertised opener for the concert.
Known as Fabolous professionally, John David Jackson is a rapper hailing from Brooklyn, New York. He has released 7 albums and 58 singles. His set made the anticipation in the room palpable, with attendees being visibly and audibly excited for Trey to come out.
After the opening performances, Trey Songz and his band came onto the stage and serenaded the audience for a little over an hour, singing some of his biggest hits such as “Love Faces”, “Bottoms Up”, “Slow Motion”, “Neighbors Know My Name”, “Dive In” and “We Can’t Be Friends”. Fabolous came back out to help Trey perform the song they released together in 2009, “Say Aah.”
Midway through his performance, Trey did an outfit change from a black sweatsuit to his signature all white blazer and pant set. During and after his performance, Trey took every opportunity he could to express his gratitude and love for Petersburg and everyone that came to see him, as well as thanking the openers and his band for their hard work. Concertgoers sang & danced along to every word for the entirety of the performance. As the concert came to a close, fans left the venue still singing and reflecting on an experience they will never forget.
Trey Songz’s official Instagram page (@treysongz) posted a cinematic video showcasing the concert highlights as well as some footage of Trey and his team backstage, so concertgoers can relive their favorite moments while seeing some behind the scenes footage, and those that did not attend can see what they missed.
