Thomas Patterson is making history as the first student to enroll in Howard University College of Pharmacy’s (HU COP) 3+4 program. Through this accelerated pathway, he successfully completed all requirements for his Bachelor of Science degree at Virginia State University, while also fulfilling the prerequisite coursework for pharmacy school.
During what would traditionally be his senior year, Thomas advanced into the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at Howard University in Washington, D.C., effectively beginning his graduate studies early. This unique academic journey highlights both his dedication and the strength of the partnership between VSU and Howard University.
This spring, Thomas will return to Virginia State University to formally graduate with his B.S. degree, marking a significant milestone in a nontraditional but highly impactful educational path.
Thomas’ story exemplifies innovation in higher education, student achievement, and the growing opportunities available through strategic academic partnerships. It serves as an inspiring feature for students, families, and educators across the region.
