The organization The Girls That Get It (TGTGI) hosted “On the Rocks!”, a paint and sip event exclusively for female students at Virginia State University and women in the community, on Friday, Sept. 23.

The event was organized by TGTGI’s founder and president Kilah Oliver, who is a junior mass communications major. With additional collaborative efforts from her organization members and others, “On the Rocks” transformed from just an idea to reality.

“The ladies showed up and helped me to plan, promote, and execute this event,” Oliver said. “None of that would have happened if I didn’t have their help.”

Following a long week, “On the Rocks!” provided a space where the ladies enjoyed an evening of painting, drinking, and socializing in a calmer area on VSU’s campus that overlooked the Appomattox River.

“The overlook is a very peaceful spot to sit, think, paint, listen to music…,” Oliver said. “It fit the vibe for the paint and sip perfectly.”

Oliver was glad that people came and participated. The purpose of the event was to allow women on campus and the community to come together to fellowship. She hopes to continue events such as this in the future.

“The best part for me personally was when they first showed up,” Oliver said. “I was so happy that people support what we’re trying to do.”
