Unveiling new members, celebrating tradition

This probate season Virginia State University came together to put on a show.

On March 22, the probate took place in Daniel’s gym at 5:30 p.m. Trojans packed the stands and waited anxiously to see who had joined the D9 community.

The women of Alpha Kappa Alpha and the men of Alpha Phi Alpha were to come out first. Alpha Kappa Alpha strolled out and onto the stage at 5:30 p.m. in their green and pink setting the stage and crowd on fire.

The thirty women of AKA land sang, danced, and strolled their hearts out. They set the bar high as they were the first to be seen this probate season.

The Alphas were next, coming onto the stage locked in a line behind one another strolling and chanting, the crowd was ready for the Alphas to be free.

They sang, danced, and strolled, stomping so hard it could have broken the stage in half. The Alphas shined brightly in their black and gold.

The probate also included band organizational fraternity and sororities throughout both days such as Kappa Kappa Psi , Tau Beta Sigma, and Sigma Alpha Iota.

As students anticipated Saturday, Trojans took to Instagram to congratulate the new members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. The new members of Alpha Phi Alpha, the new members of Kappa Kappa Psi, and the new members of Tau Beta Sigma.

They posted videos and photos along with heartfelt captions congratulating their peers on their great accomplishments.

This was a two-day event leading into Saturday, March 23. As they opened up Daniel’s Gym again at 2 p.m.  on Saturday for the second half of the probate show.

The second half included D9 organizations like Iota Phi Theta Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Inc., Omega Psi Phi Inc., and Delta Sigma Theta Inc.

The Iotas marched out with 8 members of their new line. The men’s heads were wrapped in a scarf to conceal their identity until it was time to reveal. Upon their revealing, the men removed their scarf to reveal themselves and their line names.

The night continued as the women of Zeta Phi Beta Inc. revealed their new line. The women in blue strolled the night away, the crowd got rowdy as the 7 women started to reveal themselves. . The night carried on with the probates of The Sigma’s, Deltas, and the Ques. The crowd was loud all-night, Daniels was filled to the brim with love and support, loud chanting and shouting, and joy for our Trojans.
